Summer is just around the corner, and if anyone knows how to enjoy the warm months, it’s Nova Scotians! Here’s a list of activities to help you enjoy the long, hot summer!
1. Host a Backyard Bash
Summer means BBQ season is officially on! Whether you’re at home or at the cottage, backyard parties are a great way to bring your friends and neighbours together for good food and good times.
2. Spend an Afternoon in a Hammock
There’s nothing more relaxing than laying lazily in a hammock. Relax with a good book, the radio, and maybe a few cold drinks. You’ll find the tensions of the day melt away as you gently sway back and forth under the summer sun.
3. Have a Potluck Picnic
With all the green spaces and parks around the HRM, why not take advantage and get some friends together and enjoy them together? Potluck picnics are a great way to meet up with low stress for everyone. Bring a frisbee or a washer toss set for extra fun!
4. Sleep With Your Windows Open
Turn off the A.C. and spend at least one summer night falling asleep to the sounds of crickets, frogs, and the soft summer breeze.
5. Curl Up in a Cozy Corner Because It’s Too Hot to Go Outside
For those days when it’s just too damn hot to do anything, plant yourself on a daybed with a tall glass of lemonade, and give yourself permission to do absolutely nothing while the A.C. blasts.

Map out a road trip and find some new vintage treasures to fill your home.
9. Invite Your Friends Over for Sangria Night
A huge pitcher of fruity sangria, paired with a group of your best friends, is basically all you need for a perfect evening.
10. Make S’mores Around a Bonfire
End a perfect evening with friends and family by enjoying s’mores around an open fire. All you need to make this summer-camp classic are bamboo sticks, graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows.
